20,000 temp jobs on offer at Royal Mail

Royal Mail has announced it is looking to recruit 20,000 temporary workers over the Christmas period. Work will be available from late October until early January through the delivery peak season.

Highlights of the recruiting campaign include 1000 jobs at the new Royal Mail parcel sort centre in Atherstone. Parcelforce will be recruiting 900 parcel sorters and 1,2000 additional drivers.

The postal operator says that 16,000 temps will be needed to work in distribution centres, mail centres and data centres around England, including the Atherstone jobs above. There will also be 1000 temporary posts in Scotland, 300 in Wales, and 500 in Northern Ireland.

Chief operations officer, Sue Whalley, said: “Christmas continues to be our busiest time of year. We plan all year round to help ensure we deliver the best possible service for UK consumers and businesses at Christmas. We are continuing to make a substantial commitment in additional resources including the recruitment of thousands of temporary workers to handle the festive mailbag and the growing market of online Christmas shopping.”
