The GMB union has said that more than 600 workers at the House of Fraser distribution centres in Wellingborough and Milton Keynes have now been informed that their jobs are at risk.
The two sites in question are run by XPO Logistics, a creditor and supplier of House of Fraser before it went into administration. XPO Logistics is now in dispute with the new owners Sports Direct. Though staff of been turning up to work every day and are being paid for their time, no work has been done on the site since the dispute began.
Last week, House of Fraser cancelled all online orders and refunded customers with outstanding orders made by credit or debit card.
According to the GMB union comma 627 members of staff have been put on a 45 day consultation beginning on Friday, 17 August.
GMB organiser Alan Costello said: “There are more than 600 people desperately worrying about their futures and how they’re going to be able to put food on the table for their families. GMB will be fighting hard to ensure members are treated fairly and to save as many jobs as possible.”
