Acclaim Logistics has announced that it is working with the Southampton and Cowes based ferry operator Red Funnel to offer a same day parcel delivery service between the UK mainland and the Isle of Wight. The service began operation this Monday, 4th April.
Twenty vehicles will cross between Cowes and Southampton daily on the Red Funnel car ferry services. Parcels left at Acclaim Logistics Southampton or Cowes receiving centres before noon will be guaranteed same day delivery.
Acclaim’s Managing Director, Mark Robinson said: “Our partnership with Red Funnel represents a huge step towards offering businesses and consumers a fast, efficient distribution service between the Isle of Wight and the mainland. These services, combined with our membership of the Palletways and APC distribution networks, provide all of the tools required to offer our customers a comprehensive, high-quality solution for their freight needs.”
Jonathan Green, Marketing and Sales Director at Red Funnel, added: “This partnership will ensure an efficient link between the Island and the mainland. The new door-to-door service will prove invaluable to businesses who operate on both sides of the water.”
Though only a short distance from the mainland, the 70,000 permanent residents of the Isle of Wight seem to get a poor deal with regard deliveries to and from the island. Such a service offered by Acclaim Logistics and Red Funnel should open up the door to faster and more reliable deliveries to people on the Isle of Wight, who are poorly served by many online outlets that frequently charge online customers extra to deliver goods there. A sensibly priced service that meets the needs of islanders should see good business if well publicised and known to online retailers both on the mainland and the island.
