Allianz offering insurance for StreetScooter vehicles

Insurance giant Allianz now offers third party liability and comprehensive insurance for StreetScooter electric delivery vehicles.

In a statement, StreetScooter owners Deutsche Post DHL said: “The insurance is provided under the Ford Autoversicherung brand and available at selected Ford dealers throughout Germany that sell StreetScooter vehicles.

“The insurance is designed to include the modern safety components found in StreetScooter vehicles, as well as their cost-effective repair.

“The offer supports StreetScooter’s Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) approach, which provides a low total cost of e-mobility so small and medium-sized enterprises can switch to this environmentally friendly drive technology. An expansion into other markets with further insurance and service solutions is planned.”

Achim Kampker, CEO of StreetScooter, said: “Allianz is a strong partner who will help us breakthrough with e-mobility into various industries. This cooperation makes it even more viable for business customers to opt for our electric vehicles as the cost-effective service, maintenance and repair of StreetScooters are complemented by an attractive insurance policy.”

Deutsche Post DHL bought StreetScooter in 2014 and now makes a variety of electric delivery vehicles that are both used by the German logistics giant for deliveries and are on sale to other companies to use the vehicles for their own deliveries. The Allianz insurance will apply to both DHL and to those companies who use the vehicles in question.

Insurance companies by and large have been caught unawares by EVs and are prone to charging over the odds for the vehicles. Having a specialist insurance for StreetScooters will undoubtedly make life easier for those using them.
