A parcel delivery price comparison site run by UK entrepreneur Brian Snead has just launched in Romania. Allpacka.ro compares the prices of a number of major international and regional couriers including UPS, DPD, GLS and TCE.
Those placing orders through Allpacka.ro get discounts as against going to the companies direct as the orders are made through a single corporate Allpacka.ro account, achieving similar savings per unit to a medium sized e-commerce company.
“Using the Allpacka price comparison website is a smart way to compare courier services, and our customers can achieve up to 50% savings,” said Colin Snead, Allpacka CEO.
The prices on the platform are not based on distance. For example, the clients can expect to pay only RON 14 (€3.10) to ship a parcel over 780 kilometers from Timisoara to Constanta. Allpacka also exports to more than 200 international destinations, with a typical three-kilogram parcel to Germany costing RON 64 (€14.30).
Allpacka has been working in Eastern Europe for the last six years. It started operating in Hungary in 2010, and has shipped more than 100,000 parcels from customers there. Since then it has set up shop in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
This somewhat novel business model extends to small scale merchants similar cost savings to what they might otherwise achieve further down the line. In cutting the costs of international delivery it could well be something of interest to other countries in the EU that do more e-commerce exports.
