Amazon Air adds new aircraft to fleet

Amazon Air has agreed to lease 12 more Boeing 767-300 freighters from Air Transport Services Group (ATSG). One of those aircraft has already entered service with the next 11 to be in operation next year. This will take Amazon Air’s fleet of aircraft to 80.

One reason for the immediate move has been the delivery boom brought about by the pandemic lockdown. Much of the new capacity is to maintain normal services while meeting new demand for healthcare equipment provision.

Sarah Rhoads, vice president of Amazon Air, said, “During a time when so many of our customers rely on us to get what they need without leaving their homes, expanding our dedicated air network ensures we have the capacity to deliver what our customers want: great selection, low prices and fast shipping speeds.”

The carrier is also expanding its Gateway operations and has added local and regional air cargo hubs to its networks.
