Amazon extends Prime free same day delivery – a threat to Argos?

Amazon has extended its Prime Free Same Day Delivery coverage in the US. With the UK’s Argos getting the jump on Amazon with its new same day delivery service, could we see the online giant offering the same service to undercut its UK rival?

On Wednesday Amazon announced that the Prime same day delivery service had expanded to Chicago and Orlando. If customers from 16 metropolitan areas and 750 other cities and towns make an order of more than $35 before midday, seven days a week, they can have their goods delivered ‘before bedtime’.

The online giant trials its new products in the US before rolling out to the rest of the world. With Argos leaping ahead of Amazon in the UK with its Fast Track delivery service to anywhere on the mainland, Amazon may respond to the UK retail company by offering a similar service here.

At present, Amazon only offers Prime Now in central London for a higher price than Argos. It is conceivable with the online giant’s expansion that this may change in the next year or so with more delivery options on offer to Prime members.
