Amazon opens delivery station in Wakefield

Amazon has announced it is to have a new delivery station at Silkwood Park in Wakefield fully operational ahead of the 2021 peak season.

The 22,000 square metre building is to serve customers in the Wakefield area. Goods are sent from regional fulfilment centres to the site and are loaded onto delivery vehicles where they are sent on to Amazon customers.

Kerry-Anne Lawlor, Country Director for Amazon Logistics, said: “We are excited to invest in the Wakefield area with a new delivery station that will provide efficient delivery for customers, and create new jobs for the talented workforce.”

A recruitment campaign is underway to staff the site from the local area.

This is the newest such unit to be opened by the online giant, that has seen double digit growth in the pandemic and while restrictions have been lifted in the UK, has apparently seen little in the way of diminished demand.
