Amazon publishes its 2017 UK Trends Report

Amazon UK published its 2017 Trends Report this week. It showed that many of its offerings are going from strength to strength.

Celebrating its 10th year of Amazon Prime in the UK, the online giant stated, “We marked the 10th birthday by giving away a year of Prime membership to every household in ten small villages across the UK who have shopped most on Amazon over the last decade. We look forward to continuing to improve the Prime membership service for our customers throughout 2018 and beyond.”

Referring to its new business in the UK, the Amazon report summed up its job creation efforts: “We’re on track to create 5,000 full-time jobs this year, taking our total UK workforce to over 24,000, and we made a further announcement that we plan to open two new fulfilment centres in 2018 in Bristol and Bolton. We recently opened a development centre in Cambridge with space for 400 people, and this summer we opened the doors to our new UK Head Office at Principal Place in Shoreditch.”

Referring to the growth of the same-day delivery offering Amazon Prime Now, the report stated, “Prime Now is available to more than 30% of the UK population in selected postcodes and customers can choose delivery within one hour of ordering, or delivery within a choice of two-hour, same-day delivery slots from morning till night.”

AmazonFresh is another relatively new offering in the UK. Amazon stated in the report, “AmazonFresh has rapidly expanded its selection to more than 180,000 competitively priced items, adding more than 50,000 products over the last year.”

Amazon seems to be in a gradual transformation into a logistics company too. The report announced, “Half of all sales on Amazon’s global sites are by third party businesses selling on Amazon Marketplace.”
