Amazon is to suspend its Amazon Shipping service in June in US cities. The new delivery service is where Amazon drivers pick up packages from businesses and deliver them direct to consumers without taking them to Amazon depots or warehouses.
The Amazon Shipping service put the logistics and retail giant head to head with its old suppliers, FedEx and UPS.
In a note to shippers, Amazon stated, “We understand this is a change to your business, and we did not take this decision lightly… We will work with you over the next several weeks so there is as little disruption to your business as possible.”
The service is being suspended due to the spike in demand brought about by the pandemic rather than a lack of profit. Essentially with reduced staff the company is struggling to fulfil existing Amazon orders without the extra deployments required in the Amazon Shipping offering. This indicates that the service is to return when the world returns to normal.
