Online giant Amazon is to open a 78,000 square foot delivery depot in Longtown, just north of Carlisle in Cumbria.
The new site is to open in spring this year. Amazon is to work with eight delivery companies for final-mile delivery in the area. Amazon Logistics is to coordinate the operations.
Amazon fulfilment centres are to send the packages to the delivery depot where they will be delivered to customers. There are to be 20 permanent full-time jobs directly employed by the company and a further 100 drivers are to be needed from the driving agencies.
In a statement Amazon said: “We are investing in transport infrastructure and innovation to increase supply chain capacity and provide customers with faster delivery options.”
The delivery depot was built in 2018 and has some 40,000 square feet, and the site has another warehouse has 38,000 square feet.
