AmazonFresh Pickup gets going in Seattle

Amazon’s AmazonFresh Pickup service has opened in two location at the online giant’s home town of Seattle, Washington.

The new service is a grocery click & collect service for Amazon Prime customers.

The firm says that orders can be ready in as little as 15 minutes after they are placed online. Customers will find no minimum order and the service is free to Prime members.

On arrival, customers can either wait in their cars for their order to be brought to them, or they can walk in and pick up the order themselves.

The AmazonFresh Pickup locations are in Seattle’s Ballard and SODO neighbourhoods.

Given the possibility that Amazon is to open its new checkoutless stores in the UK, this is also something that we should note as, Amazon has invested heavily in the UK and has signalled great interest in the country even as other firms are plotting to get out post Brexit. If a product works stateside we can usually see it move here reasonably rapidly, perhaps within a year or two. Is this something for supermarkets to worry about? We will see what comes out in the wash…
