Asda invests in customer-facing technology

Asda’s chief executive Roger Burnley has announced plans to trial same-day grocery deliveries in the wake of the banned proposed merger with Sainsbury’s.

There are also to be £80 million in price cuts in 2019. Finally the Walmart owned business is to roll out its mobile Scan and Go service in more stores and there will be additional Click and Collect collection towers installed in Asda stores.

Another development for the UK grocery chain is that it is to turn its Stevenage store into a ‘tech store’ where it is to trial technological developments throughout the customer-facing business.

Judith McKenna, Walmart’s international chief executive, said Walmart was “seriously considering a path to an IPO – a public listing”.

However, she said any preparations for an IPO would “take years”.
