At its Sydney Parcel Facility, Australia Post has announced it has finished putting together what it describes as “the country’s largest single-roof solar panel installation”.
Australia Post released a statement saying the installation spreads over more than 11,000 square metres and can save up to $800,000in energy costs per year. The 1.2MW installation is set to save 2,200 tonnes of carbon emissions – the equivalent of taking 468 cars off the road.
Australia Post Group Chief Financial Officer, Janelle Hopkins, commented: “The solar power installation will reduce our operational costs, enabling us to invest more in the products and services our customers want from Australia Post.
“This installation is the 49th solar-equipped site within Australia Post’s network, which combined will generate 5,000MWh of renewable electricity every year – enough to power over 820,000 homes.
“Our investments in improving energy and cost efficiency of our buildings have already saved us $40 million. This project is a strong example of our commitment towards leading with environmentally sustainable business outcomes.”
The installation was completed last month and the solar panels are set to go live by the end of the year.
