Australia Post opens Brisbane parcel hub

Australia Post has opened the AUD$200 million Brisbane Parcel Facility. This is the biggest parcel hub in its network, and opens in time for the coming peak season.

At the same time the postal operator is going to recruit 3,700 temporary staff for the Christmas period.

Last December, Australia Post delivered some 40 million parcels, an 11% year on year growth from 2017. According to the company, on one day during that period, 3 million parcels were sent.

CEO and MD of Australia Post Christine Holgate said that this Christmas is set to be “the biggest … in Australia Post’s history”.

“Online purchases hit a record $27.5 billion in 2018, and upcoming online shopping sales like Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Singles Day are set to be bigger than ever,” she said.

“Together with traditional greeting cards, we are gearing up for a big Christmas rush.”
