Austrian Post targets parcels in 2019

With letter volumes plummeting and parcels seeing double digit growth, Austrian Post has said in a trading statement that it is targeting parcel growth in 2019.

In 2018 the parcels segment offset the losses made in letter mail. Parcels seem to have saved the company as its earnings remained flat – Austrian Post expects the same to happen into this year.

In 2018 Austrian Post saw revenue grow 1% to €1.96bn. Mail saw a 2.5% drop to €1.41bn while parcels saw an 11.5% growth to €552 million in the same period.

Austrian Post’s parcels division sees fierce competition from Deutsche Post DHL and Amazon – the latter has started its own parcel delivery business there.

“The company targets a stable development of revenue and operating earnings for 2019 as well,” it said in a statement.
