Austrian postal operator Austrian Post has signed an agreement with a strategic investor to sell the company’s German logistics subsidiary trans-o-flex.
Trans-o-flex is a pharmaceuticals, healthcare and consumer industry transport solutions provider for clients in Germany.
The market environment for this niche has been difficult in recent years, and has hurt trans-o-flex’s revenues in the German parcels and logistics market. As a result, Austrian Post has examined different strategic options within the context of an evaluation process during 2015.
The deal is subject to approval by the German Competition Authority but the acquisition is expected to take place in the coming weeks.
Austrian Post CEO Georg Pölzl said: “On the basis of this agreement we have made a decision which offers trans-o-flex a clear path for its future development.”
The logistics company offers a range of services in the three business fields Schnell-Lieferdienst, ThermoMed, and Logistik-Service.
Schnell Lieferdienst deals with the transportation of parcels and pallets as well as hazardous goods.
ThermoMed transports temperature-sensitive goods in the range from 2 °C to 8 °C through a special network with active temperature control.
The firm’s Logistik-Service unit provides logistics services ranging from storage and picking/packing to value-added services. These include set-up service for sales displays and electrical appliances, as well as customer-specific transport networks.
It seems that Austrian Post is focusing on its core businesses within Austria and this divestment may well help the company grow and survive the ever changing postal delivery market.
