bpost offers Sign for Me for registered mail

Belgian mail recipients will be able to have registered mail delivered to their home even if not in thanks to bpost’s new Sign for Me service.

Customers can go to their local post office to sign for the mail, or hand power of attorney to the postal operator to deliver most items without undermining the legal value of registered mail.

The Sign for Me service goes live in August and will only be available to private customers but not businesses. In the near future, they will also be able to ‘sign’ for the item using the My bpost app.

The new service emerges from a change of rules in the pandemic that allowed for carriers to sign for delivery in the presence of the addressee to avoid physical contact. This measure is to be gradually lifted until July this year when they will either physically sign or use the bpost Sign for Me service to get round it.
