Cainiao prepares for Spring Festival

Ahead of the Spring Festival holiday, Alibaba owned Cainiao Network has committed RMB 300 million (£34.8 million) to incentivise its couriers to remain at work and to keep its delivery offices open.

Traditionally Chinese workers head home during the Spring Festival but this impacts a lot of things including logistics. Cainiao Network plans to keep 50,000 Cainiao Post Stations open across 198 cities to ensure that its operations keep going. For customers this means that e-commerce orders made before 15:00 will be delivered to their doorsteps by 21:00 the same day.

To meet the surge in demand over the holiday period, Cainiao’s warehouses have pre-stocked more than 200 million items that include food, beauty products, furniture, household items and electronic goods from more than 10,000 merchants.

In 2021’s Spring Festival, Chinese consumers spend around £93.5 billion on shopping and dining, a 28.7% growth on the previous year. The pandemic is expected to drive these numbers even higher this year.
