Canada Post trials community hub in remote town

A new Canada Post post office will provide 24/7 services to around 11,000 people in the north of the country. The High Prairie Post Office has parcel lockers and access to banking in a secure building.

An ATM, access to post office loans and parcel lockers for pick-up and drop-off will be available 24/7 in the community hub.

The ‘community hub’ is the first such in Canada and will serve indigenous and First Nation communities in the area of High Prairie, Alberta. It plans a second such post office in Membertou in Nova Scotia that will offer similar services before the end of the year. Two more community hubs are planned for opening in 2022.

These pilots will show how the postal operator can improve its services throughout the retail postal network. With Canada’s vast area and widely spread communities often accessible only by air, this service reaches out to many who may not have had any such access to government services in the country.
