China parcel volumes see double digit growth

Between the 1st and 3rd. Of January, some 920 million express parcels were collected in China according to the country’s State Post Bureau. This represented a growth of 22.6% on the year before. At the same time, 960 million parcels were delivered in the period, up over 26% on the year before.

The growth is in part thanks to central planning by the Chinese government. The Fourteenth Five Year Plan aims at the postal industry achieving total revenues of 1.8 trillion yuan (£20.83bn) by 2025. The plan also aims at 900 million average daily users of the postal industry, and volumes for express delivery to exceed 150 billion pieces that year too.

On December 20th – the last spike in the current peak season there – 460 million express delivery pieces were collected by the industry, a 20% growth against 2020. During the Singles Day (11/11) shopping festival the industry handled 6.8 billion parcels, an increase of 18.2%.
