With 80% of international mail entering Russia coming from the People’s Republic of China, the two countries’ postal services have signed an agreement to deepen cooperation.
Mail will now be delivered seven days a week by passenger and freight train from China to Russia. Goods from online shops in China will be included in this arrangement, which will start operating from the 1st of November. Major Chines online stores will send their goods to Russia via specialist hubs for delivery to Russian clients.
The agreement comes off the back of a state visit by Russian President Valdimir Putin to China, where the two countries are in the process of deepening economic ties.
China Post’s Li Guohua said of the deal, “Together we will work through new ways and methods of processing and delivery of mail. Russian clients will get their orders from online shops more quickly.”
