The Chartered Institute of Highways and Transportation has improved its professional development programme through the CIHT Professional Development Framework.
The CIHT Professional Development Framework is an online system that enables licensed employers to train their staff who work in highways and transportation. Those on the courses are able to work towards engineering and transport planning qualifications including CEng, IEng, EngTech and Chartered Transport Planning Professional (CTPP) status.
Sue Percy, CBE, CEO of the CIHT said: “Society needs sustainable, integrated, environmentally friendly and safe transport systems. To make that necessity a reality, the highways and transportation industry must have professionals who are ethical, highly qualified with technical and practical experience and equipped with the most up-to-date and relevant approaches to delivery.
“But capability alone is not enough. They must also possess the passion and determination to operate successfully in a fast moving technological, political and social landscape.
“I believe the Professional Development Framework will be a great asset to employers in our sector and of huge value to individuals. As well as confirming their commitment to developing their employees, it will provide a relevant and appropriate structure for managing the career development of people working in Highways and Transportation occupations.
“CIHT’s framework has been designed and approved by CIHT and our partner organisations and will provide a valuable professional development tool for the sector.”
