Spanish postal operator Correos is to add 800 new electric motorcycles to its delivery fleet, taking its total battery electric vehicle delivery fleet to more than 2,400.
Some 700 of the new electric motorcycles will be two wheeled while 100 will be three-wheeled. Correos plans to run the vehicles on a long-term lease basis over 60 months and has put the contracts out to competitive tender. The vehicles should be in operation from November.
According to Correos, “winners of the contracts must provide the vehicles, their transport and delivery , as well as a series of additional services , including warranty management, preventive and corrective maintenance , roadside assistance, ITV, fines , accidents, management of replacement vehicles, registration, documentation and training.”
The postal operator says that the move will enable it to meet European environmental standards, and enable it to deliver goods into urban areas that have banned combustion engined vehicles. When the new electric motorcycles come into operation they will be part of the biggest single electric delivery fleet in Spain.
