Croatian Post has successfully completed its first drone delivery as part of a pilot project with drone services provider AIR-RMLD.
In the test the drone flew autonomously from the port of Gaženica in Zadar to Preko on the island of Ugljan, flying at speeds of 35km/h for 12 minutes.
In more than a dozen flights it successfully delivered parcels to Preko island, flying in high winds some of the time. It has a payload of up to 200 grammes while flying completely autonomously on a pre-programmed route to its destination.
According to Croatian Post this demonstrated the possibilities of using drones in the delivery of letters and parcels between post offices, and gives an indication of the needs of the postal operator for this type of technology.
