B2C courier company Deliveroo has announced that it will be working with a number of small wine merchants across the UK to launch an on – demand alcohol delivery service.
As the service begins, Deliveroo customers can currently buy from one of eight Majestic Wines shops across London, as well as 20 BrewDog shops nationally. Delivery times will be around 20 minutes from the time the alcohol is ordered.
The company has added in announcing its launch that it is “continuing to champion the UK’s small businesses” in working with a number of independent wine merchants to include Honest Brew, Vagabond Wines, Mother Kellys, and Lea and Sandeman.
The alcohol delivery service will follow the same system as Deliveroo’s food delivery offering. Alcohol merchants will be given a tablet on which orders can be processed through the Deliveroo app. Riders close to the shop will collect the order from staff, and deliver it to customers within 20 minutes.
Deliveroo began trialling standalone alcohol merchants on its platform in Spring this year, and the company has said that it has registered ‘strong customer demand’, perhaps including people who have underestimated the flow of good cheer at home and who may wish to resupply without physically collecting it themselves.
Dan Warne, Managing Director of UK & IE at Deliveroo said: “Majestic Wines and BrewDog are perfect launch partners for us offering great pairings for meals ordered on Deliveroo and by working with independent merchants like Clapton Craft and Humble Grape we’re continuing to champion the UK’s independent businesses as well.”
