Deutsche Post has announced that the price of some stamps is to go up in Germany in January. The price hike must be approved by the federal network agency (the Bundesnetzagentur) and if approved but the price will remain the same for three years after going up on 1 Jan.
The price will be 70 cents for standard letters (Standardbrief), while international standard letters and postcards the cost will go up from 80 – 90 cents. Large international letters (Grossbrief) will go up 10 cents to €3.55 per letter.
There will be no change to other letter charges, domestic or otherwise. They also apply to business letters but there are discounts available for bulk mailings.
The announcement was made a long way ahead of the price hike to help customers plan ahead.
