DHL eCommerce has formally opened a new distribution centre in Delhi, as part of DHL’s plans to invest more than €250 million in India by 2020.
In a statement, Malcolm Monteiro, CEO, DHL eCommerce Asia Pacific, said: “India is one of the top ten e-commerce markets and the fastest-growing globally with e-commerce expected to grow at a CAGR of 31% to reach €2bn by 2020.
“India has been identified as a key market for DPDHL Group and we’re leveraging our experience and successes globally and customizing our services to meet the needs of the India market. We’re confident that our new cross-border solutions will provide an added boost to the growing e-commerce industry in India .”
As with Amazon, DHL seems to have identified India as a key emerging market in the e-commerce market. It is likely that Amazon will dominate the sector with the recent failing of the Snapdeal / Flipkart merger but DHL should enable smaller players to replicate the Fulfilled By Amazon (FBA) model through the logistics firm, potentially getting a decent amount of competition in into India.
