In an attempt to open up African e-commerce customers to more than 200 US and UK online retailers, DHL has launched a new app called eSHOP.
eShop gives customers in 11 African countries access to more than 8.5 billion items available online. The countries are South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Mauritius, Ghana, Senegal, Rwanda, Malawi, Botswana, Sierra Leone and Uganda.
When the goods are paid for they are sent to DHL Express facilities for quality assurance. From the DHL sites, the customer can either have it sent to their home address or pick it up from a DHL parcel shop within just a few days.
The eSHOP website says: “At DHL eSHOP, we are passionate about moving the global digital infrastructure forward by creating and managing a fraud-free cross-border eCommerce platform.
“Before DHL eSHOP, most emerging markets could not purchase directly from US and European sites. By managing every aspect of the order cycle, we offer our customers a simple, secure, and convenient solution to online shopping from some of the best brands in the world – with new sites added every month.”
The app is powered by African e-commerce infrastructure provider MallforAfrica.
