DHL opens carbon neutral London parcel hub

Representatives of DHL, industrial property developers SEGRO, the Greater London Authority (GLA) and Newham Council came together to formally open a new, carbon neutral DHL parcel hub at SEGRO Park, Newham.

The new 51,474 square foot facility exceeds the development agreement with the GLA and requirements of the London Plan. It has been rates EPC A+ (carbon neutral) thanks to a solar array on the roof as well as a number of sensors around the building enabling energy efficiency. DHL’s electric delivery vans are to be based there too.

Alan Holland, Business Unit Director for Greater London, SEGRO, said: “SEGRO Park Newham is the latest of 22 locations across Europe at which we’ve developed warehousing for DHL, making the company one of our largest customers. The new facility provides a contemporary, sustainable and flexible facility on a perfectly-located site which in turn will help enable DHL to enhance its last mile service in East London. It is a great demonstration of the value we can achieve together.”
