DHL Targets Austria To Build Parcel Network

Deutsche Post DHL announced that it will establish its own parcel network in Austria. The parcel operator stated that it will be the first service provider to ‘precisely tailor both its infrastructure and its services to the requirements of e-commerce’.

DHL believes that the countries with the most e-commerce potential in Europe are the Benelux countries, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Austria and is now focusing on building parcels shops and Packstations in Austria.

The company is to invest over €100 million in infrastructure investment, to include a network of parcel shops and Packstations. The company has already taken “the first step” in its plans for Austria by moving into its Vienna headquarters, where Günter Birnstingl, Managing Director Austria, and his team will oversee the build-up of the network.
