DHL’s Saloodo! launched in the UK

DHL’s digital freight platform Saloodo! has gone live in the UK. It was originally launched in Germany earlier this year.

The Saloodo! online marketplace connects transport providers with shippers on demand.

In a statement, Deutsche Post DHL said: “With the introduction of Saloodo! in Germany in early 2017, the online marketplace has been offering originally transport services within Germany, from Europe to Germany and vice versa. The focus is now increasingly on expansion and internationalization as part of its growth strategy.”

Now Saloodo! has been rolled out in the UK, DHL plans to launch the platform in Spain and Portugal in the coming months.

As well as connecting shippers and transport providers, Saloodo! has additional functionality that DHL added with the UK version. This includes allowing for quotes, invoicing in national currencies, and payment by invoice (previously payment could only be done by credit card, SEPA and PayPal).

The Saloodo! driver app, which displays carriers order details as well as route information and enables them to transfer shipment updates and documents in real-time to the platform, has also been improved. In addition to German and English, the app is now available in eleven new languages: Bulgarian, Czech, Dutch, Hungarian, Lithuanian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Slovak, Slovenian and Spanish.

Backloads are important to transport providers as they reduce the costs associated with returning vehicles to base. The Saloodo! system should enable more transport providers to get backloads, as they have been through other competing systems lately.
