DPD has opened its new £100 million ‘superhub’ in Hinckley, Leicestershire.
DPD describes the new facility as Europe’s largest and technologically advanced parcel hub, is capable of sorting 720,000 parcels a night and will create 1000 new full time jobs. It will be fully operational for the Black Friday and festive peak seasons.
The new hub will give the company plenty of room to expand as more and more home shopping goes over to e-commerce, with the UK already one of the biggest e-commerce markets in Europe.
DPD has opened 20 new depots in the UK over the last two years, 10 of which have been purpose built facilities. It has been investing heavily in the UK as it expands its business nationally, with redundant capacity for expansion of its business.
As part of the opening festivities, a film of the development and construction of the site was shown. This can be seen here https://vimeo.com/dpdgroup/review/138852522/04a129a850
