DPDgroup takes majority stake in Epicery

La Poste owned DPDgroup has taken a majority stake in French online grocery marketplace Epicery.

Epicery sells products from three supermarket chains as well as a number of local food traders, and plans to reach 10 cities in France next year. It currently operates in Paris, Bordeaux, Lille, Toulouse and Lyon.

DPDgroup is taking an 88.9% stake in the online marketplace as it seeks to develop its interests in the online grocery space. DPD’s same-day delivery operation Stuart already works with Epicery, delivering many of its orders to customers.

“This transaction is fully in line with the strategy […] that we initiated last March: to develop our delivery services to individuals and strengthen our expertise in the food market”, said Olivier Storch, deputy general manager of GeoPost DPDgroup, who becomes president of Epicery.

The co-founder of Epicery, Edouard Morhange remains in the operational control of the company in the role of managing director. He said of the transaction, ”After the demonstration of the Epicery model, I am delighted with the entry of GeoPost DPDgroup into the capital which will allow us to scale up while remaining faithful to our positioning of quality, proximity and responsibility”.
