Online marketplace eBay has agreed to buy the Toronto Canada based Terapeak. Terapeak uses supply, demand and pricing data to allow eBay’s sellers to know “what to sell, when to sell it and at what price”.
On the sale’s completion eBay is going to begin integration of the Terapeak functionalities into the eBay Seller Hub.
“Nearly two million sellers currently manage their eBay business on Seller Hub. Expanding Seller Hub to provide additional capabilities from Terapeak will help our sellers be even more successful and enable them to more effectively manage their businesses on eBay,” said Bob Kupbens, Vice President of B2C Selling at eBay.
This move should streamline selling for the marketplace sellers and improve the flow of goods through the system – through sellers making more sales by pricing competitively. More experienced eBay sellers use systems such as that of Terapeak already but this will be available to all sellers and may well have the effect of levelling the playing field for all involved. For the parcel industry this may well result in an uptick in parcel volumes as more people make more purchases.
