Embark self-driving truck completes US coast to coast route

A self driving truck built by Embark has just completed a 2,400 mile coast to coast journey across the US from LA to Jacksonville, Florida.

The truck was developed by Embark, a company that launched its autonomous lorry technology in 2017. The company has already sent a truck from LA to El Paso in Texas.

While the truck is self-driving, a human driver had to be in the cab at all times for safety reasons.

“The driver is always responsible for being attentive and making sure that everything is safe, but the driver will regularly go many hours down the road without actually being involved, and when they are involved, it’s usually just for a few seconds,” said Embark CEO Alex Rodrigues.
