FedEx is to cease deliveries of Amazon small packages in the US at the end of the month.
The logistics firm announced in June that it would also cease carrying Amazon packages in its air-cargo flights around the US.
The news follows FedEx’s announcement in June that it decided not to renew its contract with Amazon for U.S. cargo delivery through its plane-based express service.
“This change is consistent with our strategy to focus on the broader e-commerce market,” FedEx said in a statement
Amazon in a statement said it is “constantly innovating to improve the carrier experience and sometimes that means reevaluating our carrier relationships.”
Amazon has been building out its delivery and logistics services and is in competition with FedEx on many levels, with this likely to increase substantially in coming years. Major delivery firms like UPS and Royal Mail could well see their contracts being slimmed down as that network grows worldwide too.
