FedEx self driving HGV pilot expanded

FedEx Corp has expanded its pilot programme using self-driving HGVs to move goods between hubs in Texas. The Aurora self-driving technology is set up on Peterbilt 579 HGVs.

As of March this year, Aurora enabled HGVs have been doing a 520 mile run between Aurora’s terminals between Fort Worth and El Paso. The vehicles have a safety driver on board. The trips are done once a week but this is set to increase. At the same time it continues to move goods between FedEx South Dallas terminal and its new Houston terminal.

FedEx has chosen to expand the pilot has it has proven to be reliable and efficient. The two companies have said that the deliveries between Dallas and Houston have been 100% on time. To date the trucks have done close to 60,000 miles with no safety incidents.
