FedEx Small Business UK Grant finalists announced

Global Logistics company FedEx has announced the ten finalists of its Small Business Grant UK competition. The competition is designed to support two SMEs develop their international interests and export plans.

63% of the UK’s SMEs export, making a significant contribution to the balance of trade. Larger businesses such as FedEx have an interest in supporting such exports as ultimately it benefits them.

The 10 finalists are: the free-from food company The Beautiful Blending Co, Daughter of Soil the skincare products from Africa. Other finalists include Elderbrook Drinks which is a healthy cordial company, RSJS Studios Ltd which develop cufflinks using unusual materials, Lindsey Lang Design Ltd the homeware designer, the gluten free noodle range Mr. Lee’s Noodles, Bok Knives, Park Lodge International Ltd, Mwnki Ltd and Prim and Clover.

The winners are to be announced on May 9th. The First Prize will be £20,000 and Second Prize will be £10,000, to be invested in their international export plans. In the run up to the awards, each company is to pitch to a panel of judges their international growth plans. The panel of judges will be business journalist David Prosser, CEO of Tyrrells crisps David Milner, and Martin Davidian, MD of FedEx UK North and Ireland.

The Small Businesses Grant competition was originally launched in the US in 2012 and has since been rolled out to Hong Kong, Singapore and Brazil as well as Germany, France and Italy.
