FedEx suspends domestic freight deliveries

Due to a combination of the severe winter storms and staff shortages brought about by the pandemic, FedEx has suspended domestic freight services in the USA.

The services affected are the economy FedEx express freight that includes FedEx two-day freight and FedEx three-day freight services. At the same time, after briefly suspending them, the logistics giant has resumed international economy freight pick-up services as of this week.

The current spike of the Omicron COVID-19 variant has impacted FedEx across its operations and in January the firm warned that staff shortages would cause delays in shipments by air. This has been compounded by many airports being shut due to winter storms.

The US has had a particularly bad death rate from COVID-19, second only to the UK in terms of death per capita population. Some 890,049 people had died of the illness since the pandemic began as of Monday this week. Over 2,000 died that day alone. This has severely impacted the ability of many businesses to run at full capacity.
