European carriers GeoPost/DPDgroup expects to handle 351 million parcels across the UK and EU in the coming peak season between mid-November and mid-January.
The projected 8.6% increase in volumes on 2020-21’s peak season is in part due to the healthy boost in parcel volumes during the pandemic. In the first half of 2021, the carrier saw a 23.6% increase in volumes compared to the same period in 2020. It handled more than a billion parcels worldwide in this period, though growth has slowed since.
The peak season comprises of Singles Day on 11/11 (imported from China), Black Friday (26/11), Cyber Monday (29/11) and the week before 25/12. The season is set to continue until the middle of January as people return unwanted goods.

Across its European and UK operations, DPDgroup is preparing for the seasonal spike with: 60 additional depots for the season, 12,000 seasonal drivers operating 9,000 vans, 5,000 seasonal warehouse staff and extended operating hours or shifts at existing depots.
