Getir to donate surplus food to 300 charities

Turkey based fast-delivery company Getir is to donate UK surplus food to charity through Neighbourly.

Every UK Getir store is to partner with at least one food bank or homeless charity through Neighbourly’s online platform. This notifies charities of surplus food donations and allows them to collect the food from their local store on a daily basis.

The first 50 Getir outlets are to start the programme within the next month, and the programme will be nationwide by the end of the year. By the end of the year the company aims to donate surplus food to 300 charities.

“Neighbourly is an essential partner who will support us in giving back to the local communities we operate in,” Getir regional manager Turancan Salur said.

“We want to improve the lives of those in our cities and through Neighbourly we can redistribute our surplus food to charities and help feed those in need.”

Neighbourly CEO Steve Butterworth added: “Making sure unsold food is put to the best possible use in communities while combating the environmental impact of wasted food is a win-win.

We’re delighted to be working with Getir as they roll out their new surplus programme across all their cities, helping them build strong relationships with charity partners and make a difference for local families.”
