Glovo takes sustainability measures

To offset carbon emissions on its deliveries, on-demand delivery start-up Glovo has joined forces with carbon credit marketplace Pachama.

To begin with the Barcelona based delivery company is to purchase 30,000 tonnes of carbon credit certificates, offsetting its carbon emissions by 25% by the end of the year.

The long-term strategy of Glovo is to offset 100% of its carbon emissions across the whole value chain from procurement to end-of-life products sold through the Glovo app before the end of 2021. At the same time, the company is to actively reduce its carbon emissions through things like food waste management, order bundling, sustainable packaging and using backpacks made of recycled and recyclable materials.

Diego Saz-Gil, Founder of Pachama, said: “We already know that deforestation has a negative impact on climate change and the wildlife that thrive in these forests. But, it’s now clear that deforestation has a real and tangible impact on human health too, through increased risk of virus spillover. Reforestation and conservation are critical, not only as a solution to climate change but also for sustaining human and animal health.
