GLS and DB Schenker to work together?

European logistics company GLS Group and rail shipper DB Schenker have agreed to work together delivering parcels according to reports in the German media.

The two industry giants have strengths that could significantly benefit each other. DB Schenker is one of Europe’s largest road and rail freight companies with access to most of the EU’s railway network. Meanwhile, GLS Group is one of Europe’s largest road haulage firms.

Shipments across Europe could now be done by train for the longer sections to inland ports where GLS Group can take freight direct to customers’ doors. DB Schenker’s networks include major sea ports such as Rotterdam and the deal could enable shipments to be done with minimal additional paperwork for freight forwarders.
