GLS is to build a new, 6,200 square metre depot in Amsterdam that the Royal Mail owned company says should double its capacity there.
The new depot will have an advanced sortation system and 140 loading / unloading doors. It will be in Atlaspark in the port of Amsterdam and will be within 10 minutes of the centre of the city.
“With this capacity expansion, we can continue to offer our customers a fast and reliable service with the ever-increasing volumes,” said Milo Kars, Managing Director of GLS Netherlands. “At the same time, this new depot fits in with our aim to minimize the environmental impact in our (inter) national network and to create attractive jobs.”
The new GLS unit is to create 200 new jobs, and will have a solar array and ground source heat pump to minimise carbon emissions.
