Gorillas offers sub-10-minute delivery in New York City

German same-day e-commerce players Gorillas are offering under-10-minute delivery in New York City.

Founded in 2020 in Berlin and now available in more than 25 cities across Europe, Gorillas has made the move into New York City despite the hot competition from established same-day delivery companies. It has a series of dark stores in Brooklyn where it will begin operations and will move into Manhattan in June. The German company plans to take on other major US cities in the near future.

The business model is for Gorillas network of dark stores to offer just 2,000 lines of groceries and essentials. All orders will cost $1.80 and there are no minimum order limits for customers.

Gorillas is making the move into the US thanks to online grocery shopping growing by 81% to $55.5 billion in 2020 over 2019.

“Now that this industry has experienced the long overdue propulsion into e-commerce, it will be here to stay,” Gorillas CEO and co-founder Kagan Sümer said in an announcement Monday.
