Hermes has opened a new distribution centre (DC) at Kabelsketal, a site between the booming cities of Halle and Leipzig. Close to the A9 and A14 autobahns and Leipzig – Halle Airport, the site should extend Hermes capacity in the region significantly.
The new DC will be able to handle more than 200,000 parcels a day when fully operational in May. The company invested €38 million in then site, which will also create 200 new jobs at the company.
The new distribution centre has won a Gold certification for its sustainability by the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB).
“Thanks to our very positive cooperation with Hermes and all those involved in the project, we have successfully completed a logistics center within a short build period of about eleven months,” explains Florian Sauer, Managing Director of Development & Leasing for ECE’s Office, Traffic, Industries division.
Hermes recently opened another new distribution centre in Hamburg as part of its nationwide investment in future capacity and efficiency.
