Hermes UK has opened a new, 157,000 square foot distribution in West Thurrock, South East England as part of its national investment programme. The new site, creating 133 new jobs, is being opened due to forecasts of strong growth in e-commerce.
The warehouse will be handle up to 115,000 parcels a day and can operate 24/7 in peak demand. Hermes UK has opened it ahead of the coming peak season where the peak season could be added to by increased demand from the second wave of the pandemic hitting the UK. The delivery company expects record volumes in the coming months.
“It has been a hectic but successful couple of days since we opened. Our new team includes people from all kinds of professions who have been made redundant as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and being able to employ so many local people from the area has been really important for me. We are getting ready for a busy Black Friday and Christmas period and will be working hard to ensure that our customers continue to get a fantastic service,” said Sidonia Grigorie Depot General Manager.
