India Post modernises post office network

India Post has initiated plans to modernise its 150,000 strong Post Office network.

The Indian postal operator has engaged the Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) to modernise the network over the coming years. TCS is to modernise the delivery of mail and packages, enhance customer experience, and launch innovative services that will drive new revenues.

TCS will implement Core System Integration deploying an integrated ERP solution that caters to mail operations, finance and accounting, and HR functions, and connects its network of over 150,000 post offices, making this the largest distributed ePostal network in the world.

The £8.5 billion (1100-crore) was set up in 2013 with the plan to run an end-to-end IT modernisation programme with the Indian Department of Posts.

Some half a million post office employees are to be affected that process 3 million postal operations a day, and is one of the biggest such modernisations in the world today.
