InPost investing £100m in UK parcel lockers

Polish parcel locker operator InPost is to install 10,000 parcel lockers in the UK as part of a £100 million investment in UK parcel locker infrastructure.

Currently there are 1,500 parcel lockers in high-footfall areas in the UK.

InPost floated on the Amsterdam stock exchange in January, valued at £7bn. Founder of InPost Rafal Brzoska rationalised the investment: “Britain has the most advanced e-commerce market in Europe, we want to be a part of that.”

There are several selling points to parcel lockers according to Brzoska, including reducing the overall costs of delivery. According to him, the final mile costs around 70% of the delivery fee from merchant to customer. It also significantly reduces the carbon footprint thanks to there being no missed deliveries, and customers do not have to wait in for their deliveries but can instead collect the parcels from the parcel locker when convenient.

InPost is working with a number of major UK retailers including Boohoo, New Look and Missguided.

Carriers Hermes UK are to service the lockers.
